Description

Currently, the world is hotly discussing the implementation of the principles of a circular economy, including in the construction industry. Broadly speaking, the concept of a circular economy aims to close the loop and return resources back into the system, thereby minimizing waste and maximizing value. These goals coincide with sustainable construction processes, which aim to reduce waste (e.g. resource consumption and emissions) in construction activities and their impact on the environment. Implementing circular economy concepts in the construction sector is proving to be quite challenging due to a number of factors, one of which is the uniqueness of each project. The implementation of the principles of a circular economy in construction directly depends on the collection, recording and processing of various types of information, which is also a big challenge for various stakeholders of construction projects. Various digital tools and computer programs allow you to organize this process better. This article provides an overview of the main processes required for digitalization and the main tools that can help with this, and highlights the opportunities and challenges of their use in the construction industry. The authors note that by using various digital solutions, the construction industry can improve the process of implementing circularity principles and achieving sustainability in construction.
