Description

Circular economy approaches are increasingly important for climate change mitigation and adaptation. Circular healthcare allows reducing waste generation and minimising the exposure to harmful chemicals in the healthcare sector. However, research in this field is scarce. This paper aims to investigate the key components of circular economy strategies in healthcare and highlight their potential benefits for the environment, cost-effectiveness, and overall healthcare system resilience. By examining case studies and emerging best practices, we seek to influence healthcare stakeholders to adopt circular economy principles. Furthermore, we identify key barriers and challenges that healthcare organizations may encounter when transitioning to circular practices. This paper calls for action within the healthcare sector to accelerate the implementation of circular economy strategies for a more sustainable healthcare.
