Description

Over the last decade, growing environmental concerns and the prospect of resource scarcity have stimulated interest in the circular economy (CE) concept. The construction industry plays an important role in the global economy. It is important to identify barriers to adopting circular economy practices in this industry because of its environmental footprint.
This research is handled through the combination of quantitative and qualitative research methods which aim to identify the barriers that keep this sector away from circular economy practices in a developing country like Albania. in the first phase, a systematic review of the literature on the barriers of the circular economy in the construction sector for a developing country was made.
This paper highlights the need for the supply chain, political and legislative, social and cultural, financial and economic, and technological barriers. It contributes to the literature of circular business models in the construction sector, the challenges they face, and the driving forces behind their development, particularly in developing economies. This may help policymakers implement the appropriate incentive programs and provide directions for further studies.
