Description

Knowledge and awareness of traffic regulations play an important role in the reduction of traffic accidents, especially among the younger generations. This study was conducted to evaluate the traffic awareness and behavior of students, academic staff, and workers at the German Jordanian University in Amman, Jordan. In order to achieve the aim of this study, a survey was constructed and sent out to more than 500 people. A total of 300 responses were collected, with the majority of them in the age group of 18 to 25 years old. Data has shown that a considerably low percentage of drivers comply with speed limits and seatbelt usage with increased mobile phone usage while driving. Furthermore, most of the participants who had been in one or two accidents were between the ages of 18 and 19. In addition, participants agreed that social media is the best method for introducing traffic awareness, while Television is the least effective. In conclusion, this study showed that most of the targeted groups own vehicles and don’t obey traffic regulations. Therefore, it is recommended that traffic awareness start at an early age. In addition to introducing Traffic Awareness as an obligatory requirement in universities.
